The game of baccarat was created in Italy in the 1400s by a man named Felix Falguiere or Falguierein. He called the game “baccara,” Italian for “zero”. It is a card game that is commonly played in casinos. It is a game of chance where players compare the value of their hands to determine the winner. The object of the game is to get a count of 9 or closest to it. The hand that holds the higher count wins.
Method of Play
-
Baccarat is typically played with eight decks of cards, and two hands are dealt: the PLAYER’s hand and the BANKER’s hand.
-
Each hand is initially dealt two cards. The cards have point values; numbered cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value, 10s and face cards (King,Queen,Jack) are worth 0 (zero) and Aces are worth 1.
-
The total value of a hand is determined by adding up the point values cards. However, if the total value of a hand exceeds 9, on the second digit is considered.
Example: 7 + 8 = 15 and the second digit, 5, is the value.
-
After the initial two cards are dealt, additional cards may be drawn according to specific rules. These rules vary depending on the total value of the player’s and banker’s hands.
-
The hand with a value closest to 9 wins the game. In some cases, a third card may be drawn for either the player’s or banker’s hand based on predetermined rules.
-
Players can bet on either the player’s hand, the banker’s hand or a tie. The payout for winning bets on the player’s hand is 1:1, but a commision of 5% is charged on banker winning bets. In a “Tie bet”, hands the same value, resulting to tie. The payout for a winning tie bet is 8:1.
Baccarat is a straight forward game to play, as the dealer handles most of the actions and follow set of rules for drawing additional cards. It’s a game of chance and plyers do no have many strategic decisions to make.
